Overview
O2 SurfTown MUC opened in summer 2024 in Hallbergmoos, a small town about 30 minutes north of Munich by car and adjacent to Munich Airport. It is Germany's first dedicated surf park. The facility runs a 180-meter Endless Surf pool with four simultaneous surf zones, six session difficulty levels from First Timer through Expert, and two main wave modes for intermediate and above.
The Wave
The pool uses Endless Surf pneumatic technology, pressing air through 34 caissons to generate traveling, peeling waves across a 180-meter lagoon. For intermediate and above, there are two bookable modes. A-Frame: the wave breaks at the center of the pool and peels both left and right, creating peaks suitable for turns, barrels, and air sections at higher settings. Pointbreak: the wave runs the full length of the pool along the wave generator, producing longer rides than the A-Frame format. The beginner zone sits at the shallower end with its own separate return channel, so newer surfers are not competing for space with more advanced sessions. Session levels step up through First Timer (0.5m), Rookie (0.7m), Progressive (1.0m), Intermediate (1.4m), Advanced, and Expert, with a Pro setting reportedly in development. Barrels and air sections come online at the Advanced and Expert levels in both A-Frame and Pointbreak modes.
Best For
Intermediates and above will get the most out of a session here, particularly anyone who wants high-repetition practice on a real peeling wave rather than a standing wave. The Pointbreak mode is the headline draw for experienced surfers looking for longer rides. True beginners can use the park, the Beginner Zone is genuinely isolated and lessons are available on-site, but at EUR89 or more per session it is a steep entry point for a first surf. The park is also a practical option for travelling surfers passing through Munich Airport, since it is within a few kilometres of the terminals.
Pricing
Standard A-Frame sessions are EUR89. Pointbreak sessions are priced higher at EUR139. Bulk packages reduce the per-session cost: 10 sessions were offered at EUR749 (about EUR75 each), 25 sessions at EUR1,699 (about EUR68 each), and 50 sessions at EUR2,899 (about EUR58 each), though the presale versions of these packages reportedly sold out. A spectator ticket giving access to the pool-side area costs EUR5. An annual membership is available and reportedly provides discounts on sessions, with one source citing approximately USD200 for the yearly fee (exact EUR amount unconfirmed). Gear rental (wetsuit, board, fins, leash) is available on-site and is not included in session prices. The gap between A-Frame (EUR89) and Pointbreak (EUR139) is significant enough to check which mode your session ticket covers before booking.
Planning
Book sessions in advance online at surftown.de as popular time slots, especially weekends, fill quickly. If travelling without a car, plan the S8 to Hallbergmoos and check the connecting bus schedule before you go. Bring non-surfing guests: the EUR5 spectator ticket is good value for a day out, with a terrace, restaurant, and bar all accessible without a surf session. Check whether your session ticket covers A-Frame or Pointbreak, they are priced differently and not interchangeable. The on-site surf academy offers lessons and coaching if you are working on a specific skill, which may be more efficient than a standard free-surf session at these prices. Wetsuits and boards are available to rent if you are flying in through Munich Airport and cannot bring gear.

Verdict
A well-built, properly programmed wave pool that genuinely delivers for intermediate to advanced surfers who can absorb the travel time and EUR89 to EUR139 per session cost. The Pointbreak mode and six-level wave system give it real depth, but budget and logistics need to be planned in advance.
